Eaton RCD — Earthing Circuit Breaker (Earth Leakage Protection)

Shah N Shah supplies Eaton RCDs from the xPole range, often searched for as an earthing circuit breaker, which protect against electric shock and fire caused by current leaking to earth through a fault in wiring or connected equipment. As an authorized Eaton distributor, we stock genuine RCCB and RCBO devices for residential, commercial, and industrial installations.

What an Earthing Circuit Breaker (RCD) Does

Unlike an MCB, which protects against overload and short circuit, an RCD continuously compares the current flowing into a circuit against the current flowing back out. If a difference is detected — meaning current is leaking to earth, potentially through a person or damaged insulation — the RCD trips the circuit in milliseconds, well before it can cause serious harm. This makes it the primary protection device against electric shock, distinct from (and complementary to) overcurrent protection.

Eaton xPole RCD Range We Supply

• RCCB (Residual Current Circuit Breaker) — pure earth-leakage protection with no overload function, typically paired with a separate MCB
• RCBO (Residual Current Breaker with Overload) — combines earth-leakage and overload/short-circuit protection in a single device, available in 1+N, 2, 3, and 3+N pole configurations with B or C tripping curves
• Sensitivity options of 30mA (personal shock protection), 100mA, and 300mA (fire/equipment protection), with Type A (pulsating DC-sensitive) and Type AC (AC-only) leakage detection

Where Eaton RCDs Are Required

RCD protection is mandatory or strongly recommended on socket outlet circuits, bathroom/wet-area circuits, and outdoor circuits under most electrical wiring codes — typically at 30mA sensitivity for personal protection. Share your board schedule and we'll confirm the correct RCD/RCBO rating, pole configuration, and sensitivity for each circuit.
